FAQs

Culinary Blends

WHAT DO I USE EARTH & SEA SALTS FOR?
EARTH & SEA SALTS are perfect for seasoning your food. You can use them everyday as an alternative to regular table salt which is very processed and deficient in minerals and trace elements. They are excellent in soups, vegetable dishes, as meat rubs, in marinades or simply sprinkled on popcorn and salads. Our favorite uses include: roasted and steamed veggies, rubbed on steak, chicken and pork, and homemade dressing for salads.

DO I NEED TO REFRIGERATE EARTH & SEA SALTS?
The sea salt in these culinary blends naturally preserves the other ingredients, so they can be left out on the shelf. However, refrigerating them does preserve the aroma of the fresh herbs and garlic. If you use them infrequently, we definitely recommend keeping them in the fridge.

WHY ARE EARTH & SEA SALTS WET?
EARTH & SEA SALTS are made with unprocessed, coarse sea salt that is still moist from the ocean, only being dried by the sun and wind. Also, depending on the blend, lemon or lime juice is added to enhance the flavor profile. This makes EARTH & SEA SALTS exceptionally good as meat rubs!

ARE EARTH & SEA SALTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC?
As of yet, the USDA does not recognize salt as an item that can be certified as organic as it contains no carbon compounds. Because EARTH & SEA SALTS are over 95% salt, the product as a whole cannot be certified organic. However, the USDA does allow the word “organic” to be used for ingredients that are certified organic. These ingredients are designated this way on the EARTH & SEA SALTS labels.

CAN I USE A SALT GRINDER TO MAKE EARTH & SEA SALTS A FINER GRIND?
We don’t recommend using a salt grinder with these blends because of the moisture content. A mortar and pestle are the right tools for EARTH & SEA SALTS.

Bath Salts & Sea Salt Scrubs

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING BATH SALTS MADE WITH UNPROCESSED SEA SALT?
Adding unprocessed sea salt to a warm bath is not only soothing but also aids in the removal of toxins from the body. It can also help to relieve body aches, pains and sore muscles. EARTH & SEA SALTS bath salts contain Celtic Sea Salt®, organic sweet almond oil and essential oils. The sweet almond oil helps to moisturize your skin while the essential oils add the beneficial effects of aromatherapy.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BATH SALTS AND SEA SALT SCRUBS?
EARTH & SEA SALTS make bath salts and sea salt scrubs. Bath salts are made to put in the bath for soaking in, but sea salt scrubs are ideally used while taking a shower. Sea salt scrubs contain more healing oils than bath salts, so the running water of a shower helps to rinse off the oils. The coarse sea salt in the EARTH & SEA SALTS salt scrubs acts as an excellent exfoliant and the olive oil and sweet almond oil leave your skin super soft!

Celtic Sea Salt®

WHAT TYPE OF SALT IS USED TO MAKE EARTH & SEA SALTS?
All EARTH & SEA SALTS products are made with Celtic Sea Salt®, an unprocessed sea salt.

WHY IS UNPROCESSED SEA SALT BENEFICIAL TO YOUR HEALTH?
Unprocessed sea salt benefits include many positive effects on the body. The composition of our blood plasma, lymphatic fluid and extra-cellular fluid all mirror the chemical balance of the ocean water that it comes from. The human body uses the minerals and trace elements in Celtic Sea Salt® to create electrolytes and maintain the “internal oceans” which are vital to the proper functioning of every system in the body. Unprocessed sea salt benefits are well-established at this point in time.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CELTIC SEA SALT® AND TABLE SALT?
Table salts are mined from the earth with bulldozers and heavy machinery which can result in a negative environmental impact. The salt is then iodized, bleached and diluted with chemical anti-caking agents. Celtic Sea Salt® is harvested and handled in an ancient and natural way, please see next question.

WHERE DOES CELTIC SEA SALT® COME FROM?
Celtic Sea Salt® is harvested near the northwestern coast of France. Ocean water is channeled through a series of clay-lined ponds. The wind and sun then evaporate the ocean water, leaving a mineral-rich brine. Salt farmers (paludiers) gather the brine with wooden tools, allowing salt crystals to form. This is essentially the same method as used by the ancient Celts over 2,000 years ago. This gentle method of gathering the salt preserves the integrity of healthy minerals and trace elements naturally found in the salt.
